Stewart Smith, born in Dundee, Scotland, was one of the foremost instructors of Highland and Scottish Country Dancing in North America.  A Fellow Member and Examiner of the BATD, he was one of the best known adjudicators, having judged all major championships in the United States, Canada, and Scotland including the World Championships at the Cowal Gathering.  His wife, Joann, donated the beautiful silver champagne cup.  The cup had been in the Smith family for many years, and as such, is a particularly personal and appropriate award. Additionally, $100 is awarded through the sponsorship of Campbell Naismith.
