Testimonial:
With 51 pieces to his credit, Campbell Naismith of San Diego is one of the piping world’s most prolific piobaireachd composers.
As with Naismith’s 2024 Rising Sun Collection, Naismith provides a further “Study on Various Uncommon Cuttings and Runnings from the Compleat Theory,” perhaps the most fascinating aspect of The Waxing Moon Collection.
The piobaireachds frequently use the unusual cuttings, runnings and arrangement style of ceol mor found in the Compleat Theory, including a mid-tune return to the ground that was once standard.
Among the best is “The Nasmyth Hammer,” mainly because of its “Falling Triplets” variation, a creative and obvious tweak to the “Rising Triplets” G-D-E cuttings commonly heard today.
Naismith’s original light music pieces round out the collection. The four-part reel “Smooth Nicks” and “Mint Sauce,” also four parts, are favourites.
The Waxing Moon Collection is beautifully printed on heavy stock and bound with a glossy cover.
